Hoover vacuum bags
Hoover has run several parallel bag ranges across its cylinder and upright lines. The two most common in current UK households are the H64 shape used on Purepower and TRTE machines, and the H30 shape used on Freespace and Telios Extra machines.
How to identify your Hoover model
Hoover identifies its bags by an H number, printed in large type on the bag packaging and on the bag collar itself. The machine model is on a label on the underside of the body and usually starts with a two or three letter range code, such as TRTE for the Purepower cylinders or TFS for the Freespace range.
If you have the old bag, the H number on its collar settles the question in seconds. If the machine came to you second hand and empty, match the range code from the underside label against the table below rather than guessing from the shape of the lid.

Where Hoover owners go wrong
- Reading H30 as interchangeable with H64. They belong to different cylinder generations and the collars are not the same.
- Trusting a listing that says 'fits all Hoover'. Hoover has run several parallel bag lines for decades and no single bag covers the range.
- Ordering from the retail name on the lid alone. Purepower and Freespace are range names that each spanned several years and more than one bag shape.
When to change the bag
Hoover cylinders lose suction noticeably before the bag is physically full, because the paper clogs from the inside as fine dust builds a layer against it. If the machine starts leaving grit on a carpet it cleared easily last week, change the bag before assuming the brush bar or hose is at fault.

My bag collar has no number printed on it. What now?
Check the inside of the bag door: Hoover prints the compatible H numbers on a sticker there on most models. Failing that, the range code on the underside label will point you to the right family.
Do Hoover bags come with filters?
Retail packs usually include at least one motor filter. Fit it when you start a new pack rather than saving it, because a clogged motor filter undoes most of the benefit of a fresh bag.
Is it worth buying the larger multipacks?
Only if the bag reference is settled. A five pack of the wrong shape is a more expensive mistake than a single bag of the right one.
